How He Proposed
May 4, 2018 || Bar Harbor, Maine
Our proposal story has been in the works for quite some time - 7 years of dating will do that to you! Corey considered a number of travel destinations, including Hawaii and Norway, but ultimately never pulled the trigger before deciding on Acadia National Park earlier this year after realizing that it would be too hard to convince Grace to come to the west coast for a long weekend given her busy surgery rotation schedule in New York.
After finishing an exam in early May, Corey surprised Grace by telling her to pack a bag as they were off to LaGuardia and unbeknownst to Grace, heading to Bangor, ME (Corey is still not convinced Grace knew where she was going even when she got her boarding pass). Corey's nerves finally set in at the gate when their plane was delayed for 2 hours because the air conditioning was not working on an unseasonably humid spring day in New York. Fearing for the worst, Corey began researching renting a car to drive to Bangor that night - and insisted that they were going to Bangor, despite Grace telling him to relax (it runs in the family)! Eventually they were hurried on to the plane to minimize the idling and taxiing time as the air conditioning would work once the plane took off. That may have been the longest 45 minutes of Corey's life.
Upon arriving in Bangor, Grace began to sense something was off as Corey kept telling her to "hurry up" because he wanted to get to the cabin to make dinner. After driving an hour to Bar Harbor, Corey let Grace enter the cabin first - which he had arranged with the host and a local florist to be decorated with flowers, rose petals, pictures of the couple and candles. Claiming she never saw the photos, Grace commented on how cute the cabin and decorations were (seemingly thinking that rose petals are a common occurrence) and insisted on grabbing her GoPro to take photos. Corey finally gave up on the notion that Grace would figure it out on her own and got down on one knee and proposed! It is still unclear whether Grace actually remembers that moment as she seemed to be more concerned with her GoPro pictures than the new shiny ring on her finger, but nevertheless, she said "YES OF COURSE".
They spent a magical weekend in Acadia National Park, hiking, exploring the beautiful coastline and eating countless lobsters. It is a weekend they will never forget and hope to visit Acadia some day again!
